Afterwards Matěj spent three weeks in Ostrava. He underwent treatment in a hyperbaric chamber and basal stimulation therapy.
Just to explain: In the hyperbaric chamber hyperbaric oxygenotherapy is performed, consisting in inhalation of oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure (roughly 2.5 - 3 times compared with normal conditions). Thanks to a higher concentration of oxygen (up to 100 percent compared with 21 percent in normal atmosphere) and higher pressure, the patient is given fifteen times higher quantity of oxygen during hyperbaroxia. As a consequence, tissues are supplied more oxygen which may be beneficial for treatment of many health problems.
Basal stimulation is a pedagogical-nursing concept supporting perception, communication and locomotory abilities. The concept uses various elaborated rehabilitation techniques which are tailored to patients's needs so that patient's preserved communication and locomotory abilities could be used to the maximum possible extent.
We are pleased to say that the personnel in both institutions were very accommodating and professional. And we are also very pleased that we may say that the treatment moved Matěj slightly forward.
